Jeff Pezzutti Park
Leichhardt storm into round two
Last year FNQ Premier League side Leichhardt was eliminated in the first round, but this year confidently push forward in the competition. It was the first meeting between Leichhardt and Douglas in the FFA Cup. Douglas bagged one, but a first half brace to Lions’ Leo Taeyang, as well as Foua Thoa also finding the back of the net had The Lions with a comfortable buffer heading into the second half.
The second half was all Leichhardt as Cameron Nucifora, David DiLucchio and Nicholas Roth all joined the scoresheet. Douglas netted a second time, but it was ultimately Leichhardt who moved into round two.
Leichhardt travel to Stratford to take on the Dolphins on 20th March 2018, kick-off 7:00pm.
Mareeba United | 3 – 3 (4 – 5) | Marlin Coast Rangers
Lindsay Australia Stadium
The Rangers survive in Mareeba
The Rangers have progressed to round two of the FFA Cup preliminary rounds for the first time in the Cup’s short history. A first half blitz from the visitors had them 3 – 0 up at halftime but the home side had other ideas.
A determined Mareeba outfit fought back in the second half, scoring three times to level the match and send it to extra time. Throughout an added 30 minutes there were chances at both ends but neither side able to capitalise, ultimately sending the game to penalties.
Much to the relief of the travelling fans, Marlin Coast prevailed and move directly to round three. They will take on the winner of Innisfail United v Edgehill United on 27th March 2018.
Southside Comets | 15 – 0 | JCU Strikers
Walker Road Sports Complex
Reigning premiers dominant at home
It was a tough night at the office for JCU Strikers, drawn against the reigning FNQ Premier League premiers. The home side was rampant over the visitors, who struggled to gain a foothold on the match.
It was a dominant attacking display from the home side, with an incredible individual effort by Will Monin who bagged five goals in total.
The Comets have gained direct entry to round three, where they will play the winner of Stratford Dolphins and Leichhardt FC.
Edge Hill United | Postponed | Innisfail United
